Setting Up Your Document
What are "bleeds" and text safe area?
Bleeds are the portion of your document that extend past the borders of your page. The purpose of bleeding your document is to allow background color and images to print to the edge of your paper without being trimmed off during cropping.
When including text in a document, it should fall inside the text safe area. This guarantees that none of the text will be cut off during cropping.
Bleed Area: The bleed area should extend approximately 0.125" on each side past what the finished document size will be. For example, if you are making business cards (3.5" x 2") your document size should be 3.75" x 2.25"
Please note: Bleeds are only necessary if the color extends to the edge of your document.
Text Safe Area: To avoid having text cut off during trimming, make sure that no text is within 0.25" of the edge of your document.
